Simple, meditative and uplifting group dances are accompanied by devotional songs and chants. No previous experience is necessary. All are welcome.
Let your being resonate with songs and chants of powerful beauty, both ancient and contemporary. The Dances of Universal Peace are a dynamic form of contemplation, a multicultural celebration of the sacred in movement and voice, rhythm and melody.
The Dances of Universal Peace consist of simple, expressive group movements choreographed in patterns of circles, spirals, spokes and whorls, accompanied by devotional songs or chants from a range of spiritual traditions. Created by the American mystic Sufi Ahmed Murad (SAM) Lewis in the 1960’s, the Dances are inspired by the teachings of the Indian Sufi Hazrat Inayat Khan. The practice honors the world’s spiritual traditions in a deep way and recognises the wellspring of blessing flowing through them all.
As a form of group meditation, the Dances explore the potential for shared experiences of beauty to establish heart-to-heart connections between people.
No previous experience is necessary. All dances are taught as if everyone were a beginner. People whose mobility is limited are welcome to participate, including those in wheelchairs. There are many ways to join the dance that don’t involve using your feet.
A fragrance-free event: please respect others’ sensitivities to perfumes.
